Below you can find an overview of the beacon scheme since the launch in 1999 up to round nine.
- 1784 applications have been received for beacon status since the start of the scheme
- 512 awards have been made since the inception of the Scheme.
- 195 different local authorities have held an award representing 50 per cent of local authorities.
- 10 awards have been made to Best Value Authorities.
- 205 different authorities have held status.
Types of authorities that have won beacon status from round one to eight (in the case of joint applications only the lead authority is recorded):
- 60 County Councils
- 67 London Boroughs
- 101 Metropolitan Boroughs
- 72 Shire Districts
- 73 Unitary
- 6 Best Value Authorities
Awards by region for rounds one to eight (best value authorities not included):
- 29 awards in the East Midlands
- 59 awards in the East of England
- 69 awards in London
- 41awards in the North East
- 61awards in the North West
- 64 awards in the South East
- 52 awards in the South West
- 36 awards in the West Midlands
- 54 awards in Yorkshire and the Humber
Top repeat beacons for rounds one to eight: (round by round)
- Leeds City Council has received nine awards. One in each round and two in round eight.
- Leicester City Council received seven awards. One in each round up to round seven.
Top multiple beacons in rounds one to eight:
- Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council has received eight beacon awards, but not in successive rounds and includes multiple awards within the same round.
- Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and Suffolk County Council have both received seven beacon awards but not in successive rounds and can include multiple awards within the same round.
